Excursion to the Fire Rescue Service Laboratory in Tišnov

Students of the master’s degrees Corporate Security (Public Protection) at the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management of Tomas Bata University – specifically the study groups OB 22 (10 November 2025) and OB 21 (24 November 2025) – participated in a professional excursion to the laboratory of the South Moravian Region Fire Rescue Service in Tišnov. During the visit, they were introduced to both the history and the current operation of this specialized laboratory, which plays an important and irreplaceable role in responding to emergency incidents involving hazardous substances.

The excursion programme was led by Captain Ing. Jan Hrdlička, Ph.D., who provided the students with insight into the laboratory’s daily operations as well as some of the most interesting interventions in which the team has been involved. The discussion focused primarily on hazardous industrial chemicals, chemical warfare agents (CWA), principles of radiation protection, and the current risks associated with the emergence of new synthetic drugs. The programme also included an overview of the laboratory’s cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic, which is essential when dealing with cases involving drug production, illegal laboratory operations, or suspicious chemical materials.

The excursion offered students valuable insight into the practical functioning of the Integrated Rescue System and deepened their knowledge in the field of chemical and radiation safety. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Captain Ing. Jan Hrdlička, Ph.D., the laboratory management Tišnov, and the South Moravian Region Fire Rescue Service for enabling these highly interesting and beneficial insights into real-world practice for our students.

22 April 2025
During the excursion to the Institute of Population Protection in Lázně Bohdaneč, students had the opportunity to gain insight into the activities of several specialised departments. In an engaging manner, they were introduced, for example, to the work of the population warning department, the department for investigating the causes of fires, as well as other important units of the institute.

On Tuesday, 8 April 2025, a lecture organised by the Regional Military Headquarters Zlín took place at the premises of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The lecture was intended for interested students of the faculty and focused on the role and tasks of the Czech Armed Forces in non-military threats, the activities of the Regional Military Headquarters Zlín, the conditions and opportunities for joining the Czech Armed Forces, and experiences from foreign operations. The nearly four-hour session concluded with a discussion with the students.

On 2 April 2025, students of the Population Protection study programme took part in demonstrations with expert commentary at the Training Centre of the Ministry of Transport in Kojetín, focused on the construction of temporary railway and road bridges. These temporary structures are primarily used in situations where original bridges are washed away during floods or other emergency events.

In late March and throughout April, students also had the opportunity to participate in excursions to the Central Fire Station in Uherské Hradiště. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the management of the Fire Rescue Service of the Zlín Region, in particular the Director of the Uherské Hradiště Territorial Department, Col. Ing. Jaroslav Olbert, and the Commander of the Central Fire Station in Uherské Hradiště, Maj. Bc. Jan Václav Kučera. We look forward to further cooperation.
