FLAPRIS: Innovative system for flash flood forecasting
The Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic supports the project VB01000008 FLAPRIS within the Security Research Programme 2021-2026: development, testing and evaluation of new security technologies (SECTECH). This project focuses on the development of a system for accurate and timely forecasting of flash flood risks and optimisation of the activities of crisis and flood authorities of regions and municipalities.
On behalf of the Tomas Bata University in Zlín, the following persons are involved in the project:

Objectives and benefits of the project
The main objective of the project is to create a system for accurate forecasting of flash floods, which will enable:
– Evaluate data from correlation analysis of climatological, physical-geographical and empirical characteristics of the relief.
– Analyse forecast meteorological characteristics using artificial intelligence methods.
– Generate flash flood risk maps with four risk levels for a selected municipality with extended jurisdiction in the Zlín region.
– Automate and optimize the processes of crisis and flood authorities for a more effective response to impending floods.
Innovation and technological contribution
The FLAPRIS project brings a new approach to monitoring and forecasting flash floods. Using artificial intelligence and advanced correlation analysis, the system can more accurately estimate flood risk and enable faster and more effective emergency response.
This research and development will not only help to minimise damage to property and infrastructure, but also protect human lives in areas at risk of extreme rainfall and flash flooding. The results of the project can be used in other regions and contribute to the overall improvement of crisis management in the Czech Republic.
