Young people looking for solutions to climate challenges
23. June 2025How can we inspire young people to be more sensitive to climate change and take a proactive approach? This was the focus of a three-day methodological workshop for students and teachers of grammar and secondary schools from the Zlín and South Moravia regions within the framework of the Laboratory of Change project.
The meeting offered participants the opportunity to explore the world around them from a new perspective. Students practically tried out scientific methods such as dendrochronology, ecoacoustics or spatial data collection, which helped them to better understand how climate change affects the environment we live in – and what can be done about it.
The project builds on the link between current scientific knowledge and teaching to develop themes related to climate, environment and health. Over the next two years, long-term environmental monitoring will take place in the participating schools, with the students themselves actively involved as “citizen scientists”.
The Change Lab is being developed in cooperation with Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society and with the support of the German DBU Foundation. It also includes the development of methodological and educational materials for schools and the creation of an interactive web portal that will offer practical guidance, inspiration and a space for sharing school projects on climate and health.
We thank all participants for their interest, openness and desire to make the world around them a better place. 🌍
