Students took a look behind the scenes of professional firefighters

At the end of March and during April, students of the Institute of Population Protection of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management had the opportunity to participate in excursions to the central fire station in Uherské Hradiště.

The excursions were always divided into two parts. The first part was led by a member of the Prevention Department, the second part was conducted by a “wet firefighter” directly from the exit.

Within the framework of prevention, we learned how the department works, how the investigation of the causes of fires is carried out and what is the cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic. Then we focused on the actual work of the firefighters in the callout – we learned about the organizational and operational management, the shift system, professional and physical training, and we also learned how many days of leave firefighters have and how they take it.

We also looked at technology and technical means. We showed how the maintenance of breathing equipment and protective suits is carried out. At the end the guys presented us new equipment – tanker truck CAS 20/4000/240 S2T Tatra Force 4×4 and automotive ladder AZ 40 – S1Z Scania Magirus.

We would like to thank the management of the Fire Brigade of the Zlín Region, specifically the Director of the Territorial Department Uherské Hradiště, Col. Ing. Jaroslav Olbert and the commander of the central station Uherské Hradiště Mr. mjr. Bc. Jan Václav Kučera.

We are looking forward to further cooperation.
