Academics from the faculty helped to protect falcons in Chřibe

On Friday, 23 May 2025, a so-called falcon patrol took place in the picturesque locality of Chřiby to protect the nesting site of the critically endangered peregrine falcon.

The field monitoring involved academic staff of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, specifically from the Institute of Population Protection.

The main objective of their presence was to ensure calm in the vicinity of the nesting site and to inform the public about the reasons for the designation of the protection zone. Hikers, climbers and other visitors learned why it is important to temporarily restrict access to the selected sites. The measure helps to minimize the stress on nesting falcons and increases the chances of successfully raising young.

A number of organisations are cooperating on the project – the Regional Authority of the Zlín Region, the Czech Union of Nature Conservationists, the Czech Ornithological Society, the Czech Mountaineering Association and the Czech Forests. Thanks to this coordination, an effective system of care for rare species in nature is being created.

Through its experts, the Institute of Conservation contributes not only to the education and protection of the population, but also to the protection of other living creatures with whom we share our landscape. Every bit of help counts – and even a small step in conservation can have a big impact.
